What hair restoration options are there for women?

More and more often we are seeing women enquire about hair restoration surgery. The majority of these women have explored other avenues and options related to their hair loss and are looking for what is often considered a last resort, but is the best and most successful way to restore their hair.

There are considered to be approximately 30 conditions that are believed to cause hair loss within women and the vast majority of these can be managed and resolved when on the correct treatment plan, but in cases where the hair loss has become too severe to manage in this way, hair transplant surgery is the best solution. Before considering a transplant, it is important to speak to your GP to help to determine the cause of the hair loss as this can eliminate any potential medical conditions that are underlying and could cause issues with newly transplanted hair.

The good news is that all hope is not lost and every form of hair transplant surgery that we offer is suitable for women and will help to restore your confidence in yourself and your hair. Whether you are looking for a scalp micropigmentation treatment to give the illusion of depth and shadow or a fully fledged transplant to offer renewed growth in an area of loss, hair loss in women is now a thing of the past.

What should you expect with a hair transplant surgery?

When it comes to hair loss within women, a hair transplant is considered as the very last resort (and some will even resort to wigs before they think they can use their own existing hair to stop the problem). This will obviously leave you with a lot of questions that need to be answered first and luckily for you, we’ve answered some of the ones that we are asked most commonly down below, take a look;

There are more than 30 reasons why you could be losing your hair as a woman. Some of the more commonly seen reasons are pregnancy/childbirth, anemia or even thyroid problems, but there are a wide range of others. We always advise consulting with your GP before booking in for a consultation to ensure that there is no underlying medical condition that could be causing any issues.

There are a number of treatment options available, but all of these depend on the reason for your hair loss. The only complete solution is to undergo hair transplant surgery.

Scalp micropigmentation is amazing when providing a “freshly shaved” look, but the vast majority of women do not want this. Instead, for the majority of female patients, scalp micropigmentation is performed to add the appearance of depth and shadow in thinning areas and make the scalp appear that it is fuller.

Hair transplants are completely safe for women but are only an option if the women has a thick enough area of hair on the back and sides of the scalp to donate the hair to the affected area. The problem women have is that rather than localised balding experienced predominantly by men, their entire head of hair tends to thin instead.

It’s not, as no form of baldness is completely reversible. However, it is manageable using forms of medication and ultimately utilising transplant surgery.

Depending on the cause, there are a number of things that can be done to stop any form of ongoing hair loss such as avoiding wearing your hair tied up in a tight bobble, stopping using heat based devices on your hair and even changing up your diet to ensure you’re getting the right amount of vitamins and minerals.

9 times out of 10, hair loss is down to hormones and as a woman, you undergo a number of hormonal changes throughout your life such as through your teenage years and eventually the menopause in later life. They aren’t entirely responsible, but it is definitely possible that they have caused it.
