What is brow lift surgery?

Brow lift surgery, also sometimes known as a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure that is used to smooth out the area between your eyebrows and your hairline that is performed by repositioning the soft tissue and skin of the brown and forehead. This form of procedure is designed to freshen the appearance of the forehead and brow to give a more youthful appearance as well as giving a replenished look to the skin around the eyes.

A brow lift surgery is slightly different than other surgeries that can be performed to the face as there are a number of different methods that can be used during the surgery to achieve the desired outcome. It’s possible that the incision can be made in the hairline for the tissue and skin to be shortened which lifts the forehead area and results in the need for the eyebrows to be repositioned, giving a more youthful appearance and hiding any scarring within the hairline. Alternatively, it can also be carried out as keyhole surgery (depending on your needs) where the surgery will be carried out through a number of smaller incisions in the hairline to provide the same outcome.

Although a number of our patients opt for a brow lift purely for aesthetic reasons to give them a more youthful appearance, this form of surgery can also be performed for those who have had their vision affected due to their brow drooping and by using the appropriate method of surgery, it can actually have a significant improvement on a patients lateral vision.

What should you expect with a brow lift surgery?

Brow lift surgery is a specialised surgery designed to smooth out the area between your eyebrows and your hairline, giving the appearance of lifted eyebrows and replenishing the look of the skin around the eyes. But this does come with a number of questions and we have answered some of the most frequently asked ones below.

It won’t, although it will lift the forehead and pull skin up, it doesn’t affect the eyelid skin at all.

As with all our surgical procedures, as long as you take care of yourself following the surgery then it will provide permanent results.

For the first couple of days the swelling and bruising will subside and you will be able to go back to your routine shortly after this as long as your surgeon has approved it. It can take a few weeks for the brows to reach a more normal position and can appear to be slightly elevated.
The initial healing period will take around two weeks from the date of surgery and you should be able to return to normal activity after this period.

Having a brow lift surgery performed gives your eyes a more open appearance and smoothes out the wrinkles on your forehead (which are actually caused by overuse of the muscles within the forehead that keep your eyes open).

Brow lift surgery is considered to be an outpatient procedure and is performed using general anaesthesic or local anaesthetic in addition to intravenous sedation so the procedure itself has no level of pain associated with it. Following the surgery, patients typically experience little pain but more of a feeling of discomfort and tightness throughout their forehead.

There are a number of different types of brow lift surgery available to be performed but the most commonly performed are;

  • Coronal brow lift – Where the surgeon make an incision that runs across the top of the forehead before removing excess tissue and fat.
  • Endoscopic brow lift – Considered to be minimally invasive, this method utilises smaller incisions that are hidden within the hair and utilises fiberoptic equipment.
  • Temporal brow lift – Another minimally invasive procedure that is essentially a scaled down version of the endoscopic brow lift.
