The deep plane facelift is one of the most invasive facelift procedures available, but it provides the longest lasting results. The incisions are made along the hairline before various internal structures are repositioned and reattached.
The recovery period is typically around 2 weeks. After this period, the swelling should have faded and any other after surgery effects should have resolved themselves. To improve the results and recovery, it's advised to rest with an elevated head wherever possible.
A number of patient complain about a feeling of fullness or pain in or around the ears for the first few days post-surgery, this is normal and is in relation to where the incisions were made during the surgical procedure. The pain is caused by swelling and should fade quickly.
Generally, the swelling around the treated area will get worse before it gets better but it should dissipate after a period of around 2 weeks.
Because there is little trauma to the skin during a deep plane facelift, the recovery from the surgery is considered to be relatively painless. During surgery, anaesthetic is used to mitigate any pain and pain relief can be provided or used post surgery if there is any pain.
The incisions start in the hairline at the temples and continue down around the ears.
The most common candidates tend to be aged somewhere between 40 to 60 and have already experienced ageing to the skin on their face.
